A research laboratory complex will be set up at Rs 2 billion

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – September 19, 2021): Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) will set up a state-of-the-art Rs 2 billion research laboratory complex (RLC) to research various diseases and treatment methods.

Giving details on the RLC, RMU Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammd Omer told APP that 11 laboratories of different types would be established in the complex, including microbiology, parasitology, virology, hematological coagulation, clinical biochemistry, immunology / serology, immunohaematology, urinalysis, histopathology, cytopathology, molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics and surgical pathology.

He said the Higher Education Commission, on the recommendation of the federal government, initially transferred an amount of Rs 250 million to RMU, the first RLC of its kind in Pakistan on which work is expected to begin soon.

Dr Omer said the most advanced and state-of-the-art technical equipment would be provided to scientists to investigate various elements of the disease, including its control, prevention and treatment.

“RMU, the research complex would not only provide laboratory staff with specific training in managing infectious and life-threatening causes, but researchers would also verify how to manage infectious agents,” he added.
