Fourteen of Football’s Top Ten Distinguished Scholars – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Fourteen Ohio State Buckeye soccer players were honored Thursday by the Big Ten Conference as Distinguished Scholars as a result of their classwork during the 2020-21 academic year. Student-athletes must maintain at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.70 for the academic year to earn the prestigious honor.

Buckeye’s winners are: LB Borland Tuff, OL Gavin Cupp, K Dominique DiMaccio, TE Luc Farrell, K Blake Haubeil, TE Jake hausmann, KG Justin hilliard, QB Gunnar hoak, OL Ryan jacoby, OL Chris kuhn, LS Roen mccullough, OL Harry miller, TE Corey rau and OL Zach Stevenson.

Additionally, Farrell, Cupp and Rau were among 16 conference-wide football players to maintain a perfect GPA of 4.0 for the 2020-21 academic year. Farrell, who also earned a 4.0 GPA in the 2019-20 season, is twice honored while the other 12 earned the honor for the first time in their careers.

Eight of Ohio State’s 14 Distinguished Scholars were graduate students in 2020-21, and offensive line rooms topped all positions with five recipients. The tight room was not far behind with three of the six eligible on the list.

This good news is a continuation of an exceptional academic career for the program of head coach Ryan Day. Consider:

  • A program record 61 student-athletes, including 44 scholarship players, named OSU scholarship-athletes for having a cumulative GPA of 3.00 and above for the 2020-21 academic year;
  • A record 40 program named Academic All-Big Ten Conference last season; this honor is open to those who have been enrolled for at least one full year and have a cumulative GPA of 3.00;
  • A cumulative GPA for this spring semester of 3.05; and
  • A current GPA for all stock players at dawn of 3.00: 2.998.
  • The football team has had four consecutive semesters under Day with a GPA of at least 3.00, including a GPA of 3.206 in fall 2020 and a GPA of 3.347 in spring 2020.
