Riyadh — Medical institutions in Saudi Arabia have been forced to publish prices for its services online on their own official websites.
The move was announced after Health Minister Fahd Al-Jalajel approved amendments to the Health Institutions Law Implementing Regulations, which include several adjustments.
It should be noted that the approved changes will be implemented from the date of their publication in the official journal, in addition to the cancellation of all previous decisions that contradict them.
Changes to the Health Facilities Act Regulations will also apply to existing charities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or those wishing to open private health facilities.
Amendments to the implementing regulations of the Health Institutions Law that were approved by Al-Jalajel were:
1 – Addition, adjustment and deletion of certain requirements such as the requirements that must be fulfilled by the medical director in healthcare establishments; in addition to technical supervisor functions; general director; the conditions linked to the authorization of medical complexes; medical laboratory terms and conditions; radiology services; health support services; License Renewal.
2 – It is required that the medical director in private establishments be a Saudi.
3 – The dentist is authorized to hold the position of medical director in specialized dental hospitals.
4 – Patient files must be opened free of charge in hospitals.
5 – Oblige medical establishments to publish the prices of their services online on their official sites.
6 – It is forbidden to offer discounts on the prices of the services provided by the establishment, or to publish promotional offers by any means of advertising, without obtaining the approval of the Ministry of Health.
7 – It is required that the owner of the medical clinic be a Saudi doctor who is specialized in its operation, supervises it and devotes himself entirely to it.
8 – A full-time supervisor must be present in each medical complex, radiology center or surgery center during the day for this purpose.
9 – It is necessary to have maternity suites with at least two rooms and equipped for natural childbirth and also enjoying privacy, in addition to providing midwives for the active phase of childbirth. As well as an operating theater equipped for caesareans.
10 – It is mandatory to provide a room for newborns, as well as a room for children with growth problems such as stunted children, with no less than 20% of the total maternity beds.
