Lagos State Health Commissioner Professor Akin Abayomi stressed the importance of recognizing laboratory scientists for their efforts to provide quality diagnostics to the population.
Abayomi said this at the ISN Medical Laboratory Scientist of the Year award grand finale held recently in Lagos.
The Commissioner was represented by the Director of Medical Laboratory Services of the Lagos Health Services Commission, Mr. Tajudeen Olatunji at the event.
âThe company is to be applauded for this initiative, it will undoubtedly boost the morale of laboratory workers and promote service excellence in the profession,â said Abayomi.
ISN Products Nigeria Limited Managing Director Mr. Felix Ofungwu said that ISN launched the award to celebrate the quality of medical laboratory practices and to recognize laboratory scientists for their contribution to the delivery of healthcare in Nigeria.
He said: âThe need to recognize medical laboratory scientists in the healthcare sector has become more important, especially when the world, including Nigeria, has been faced with the devastating effect of the different variants of the virus. COVID-19. ”
Friday Odum, a medical laboratory scientist working with Clina-Lancet Laboratories in Lagos, won the 2021 ISN award for Medical Laboratory Scientist of the Year.
Odum was declared the winner ahead of nine other main contenders at the Grand Final awards ceremony held in Lagos.
The award was instituted in 2020 by the ISN to recognize and reward unsung heroes of medical practice in Nigeria.
Ndukwe Kelechi of Everight Diagnostics and Laboratory Services Limited, Abuja, came in first place while Gabriel Oke, an employee of Abuja National Hospital, came in second.
