Mar 04 (THEWILL) – The Bayelsa State branch of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has been assured of government support to enable them to contribute more towards building a better system of provision of health services in the state.

Giving assurance during a meeting with the president and other association executives in his office, Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo highlighted the role of medical laboratory scientists in the correct diagnosis of diseases in public and private health facilities.

The Deputy Governor argued that diagnosis was the key to successful medical practice, therefore, its practitioners and their association should be given pride of place in the nation’s health sector.

According to him, medical laboratory science was indispensable in the healthcare system, pointing out that anything done without a diagnosis was like walking with both eyes closed.

In recognition of this, he said that the government will always provide the necessary support to the association of medical laboratories with a view to improving the quality of health care delivery in the state.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who congratulated the State President and other Association leaders on their successful election and inauguration last year, instructed them to do better than their predecessors in office in order to write their names Golden.

While wishing them a successful tenure, Bayelsa’s number two encouraged them to work towards achieving the highest standards in the medical laboratory profession as well as improving service delivery in the healthcare sector.

His words: “I have always said whenever I have the opportunity to interact with your association at any time and at any level, that the problem is that the man who does not has no value to his eyes and therefore decides to close them and walk will definitely hit a brick wall or stumble and fall.

“Unfortunately that is the practice in Nigeria… you are very important because no one can do anything reasonable in medicine without a proper diagnosis. To do anything without a diagnosis is actually walking with your eyes closed.

“The essence, relevance and indispensability of medical laboratory science and practice cannot be overstated. I speak thus not because I have feelings or emotions attached to the Association, but because it is the truth.

“The medical laboratory scientist is like a man’s skin. It is only when you have made your diagnosis that they (doctors) will actually know what is wrong with a patient and then administer the appropriate treatment.

“As a government, we recognize your role. And so, I can assure you that we will do what we can to support you and enable you to take your rightful place in the scheme of things,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the State Chairperson of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Mrs. Seleipre Hannah Richard-Sele thanked the Deputy Governor for his undying love and passion for promoting the growth of the Association in particular and of the entire state health sector. .

Mrs. Richard-Sele said the meeting was primarily to introduce the new AMLSN State leaders to the Deputy Governor as well as brief him on some of the Association’s programs.

She also appreciated Senator Ewhrudjakpo for making the AMLSN State Exco proud by attending the National Conference of the Association in Abuja.
