Vanderbilt University Medical Center will establish a presence in MetroCenter – the healthcare entity’s first major clinical operations in the huge suburban office park on the north side of Nashville.
VUMC’s diagnostic laboratory services operations will be housed in a building located at 431/445 route du Grand Cercle and previously anchored by San Francisco-based on-demand delivery company Postmates Inc. Squeezing the Cumberland River and across from the Tennessee Titans Training Center, the building is known as the Cumberland Business Center.
At the same time, VUMC is updating the existing 13,000 square feet of the main lab on the fourth floor of the Vanderbilt Clinic, according to John Howser, director of communications for VUMC. Most of VUMC’s clinical and anatomical pathology equipment and services will be transferred to MetroCenter. This space will cover approximately 110,000 square feet, with an option for VUMC to take up additional space.
Howser called both the MetroCenter relocation and the expansion of the VUMC campus lab service operations “major.” He declined to comment further.
VUMC is not disclosing the cost to undertake the move or when the lab will be operational.
An apparently Virginia Beach-affiliated LLC based in Virginia owns the property, having paid $ 11.27 million in 2018.
Postmates, which is owned by Uber Technologies Inc., operates its main local office at Cummins Station downtown.
